Episode 20.5: Bad Audio Rising

A lot of feedback this episode, mostly complaining about the bad audio last week. Not that I can blame them.
Contributions from Nobilis, Arkle, Jack Jaffee, Nomad Scry, and Emily from Ohio.
Music this week is courtesy of, ahem, Jonathan Coulton. Go check out his stuff and buy his CDs. You will not be disappointed.
Feedback can be directed to dergeek@gmail.com, or by calling 206-888-2644.
The password this week is Zoom H2.

Real show notes later, lazy ones for now!
I apologize in advance for the lack of quality audio. One of these days I will get it worked out, I swear!
Episode 18.5: Post Dragon*Con Wrapup, Part 2

In this Episode, I conclude the Dragon*Con talk, and answer some voicemail! This time fron Twitter's very own Nomad Scry.
Check out my photos.
Music was courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Promo played was for Podculture. A very old promo for them, I might add!
Contact the show by calling the voicemail line at 206-888-2644, or by emailing me at dergeek@gmail.com, or visit the blog page at DerGeek.com.
Episode 18: In Sickness and in Health

In this episode of Der Geek, Leanna and I discuss the German health care system. And also, some random German words in our random German words of the week section. Which we just started this week.
Oh, and also a voicemail from Jack Jaffee. Because it is an unspoken rule that I must link to him at least once each show notes.
Promo played was for Double Share by Nathan Lowell. Which contains minor spoilers for Full Share. So... beware. If you're in the middle of Full Share... who am I kidding, you wouldn't be listening to this, you'd be finishing Full Share.
Music is courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs are two of my favorite artists, Screaming Infidelities by Dashboard Confessional and Title and Registration by Death Cab for Cutie, who I will be going to see in November (yay!).
The secret password is irrelevant. No, really, that's the password. Mention it in a voicemail of email to get a special prize on the show. Which will probably be a shout out, but you never know!
Contact the show by calling the voicemail line at 206-888-2644, or by emailing me at dergeek@gmail.com, or visit the blog page at DerGeek.com.
Episode 17.5: The Dragon*Con Wrapup, Part 1

Update: I suck, and therefore forgot to add the Christiana Ellis bumper to the show. If you already downloaded it, redownload it for the real version of the show. In iTunes, this means deleting the episode, collapsing the feed, then shift- (or option-) clicking the arrow to open the feed. This should show all episodes. Simply click "get" again. And thank you Apple for making it so easy...
In this solo edition of the podcast, I talk about my trip to Dragon*Con due to popular demand. And quickly run out of time, so I decide to split it into two parts. This week: The journey there, and the first two days of the Con. Next week: The Parsecs, and beyond!
For Photos from the trip, be sure to check out my Picasa web album
Thanks to everyone who made my tip to Dragon*Con so special, especially to Jack and Teresa of 12 Volt Theater, who were really excellent people to hang around with and who I miss dearly. Even though their site is giving me trouble in Google Chrome. What's up with that?
Promo played was for theGeek of All Trades podcast with Arkle, who couldn't make it to Dragon*Con this year sadly. Start saving for next year Arkle!
Music was courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs were Been Away For Awhile and A Long Way by Feels Like Friday, another band I listened to and then found out they were podsafe. So yay for the Podsafe Music Network.
Contact the show by calling the voicemail line at 206-888-2644, or by emailing me at dergeek@gmail.com, or visit the blog page at DerGeek.com.
The secret password this week is Krispy Kreme. Tune in next week for part 2. Hopefully.
Episode 17: How do you say 'Geek' in Flemish?

We return from our travels with a new Der Geek!
I don't talk too much about Dragon*Con, as I'll have plenty of chances to do so. Instead, I let my wife take the focus as she tell a little about her trip with her brother to Belgium.
The audio quality for this episode is not the best, I apologize. Hopefully that won't deter you too much. I couldn't find my iRiver to record this one with, so we ended up using a less-than-optimum set up.
Promos played were for Tale Chasing with the lovely and talented Kimi Alexandre, and the Parsec Award Winning The Wierd Show with Mark the Encaffinated ONE.
Music provided courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs were Bye Bye Blue Sky by Latch Key Kid, and This Time by Laura Marie.
Episode 16.825: Assymptotically Approaching 17

In this special pre-DragonCon edition of the Der Geek podcast, Tosus, well, lets you know he's still alive. And that's about it. Oh, and he talks about his cats. And himself in the third person, apparently. Oh, and Der Geek is now a proud member of the Pods and Ends network.
To reach us, call us at 206-888-2644, write us at dergeek@gmail.com, or leave a comment at dergeek.com.
Promo played was an imaginary promo for Confessions of an Internet Addict, not quite up and running but worth checking out when it is. Music courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network.
Episode 16.75: Almost a real show

In this epsiode, I mix up the format - again! - with a solocast and an audio segment wherein I interview my parents who just returned from a visit to the states. I ramble a lot, and make up for last week's horriffic nonmention of Jack aka Wander Wolf from Wander Radio. I talk about games, music, including pimping the band Sparkadia, and other goings-on in the Tosus household. I also answer a voicemail from Arkle, and apologize for forgetting Wander Wolf
Music courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs were Dancing All Alone and Run Towards the Warmth of the Sun by Orange Is In.
Episode 16: Sweet iPhone 16

So this show is all over the place. But then when is our show not. We kick it off with a wonderful audio submission by Jack Jaffee and his gang of the usual podcasting suspects... Wander Wolf, Kentucky John, Emily from Ohio, Nobilis and his wife, Dee, Sam Chupp, Mark the Encaffinated ONE, and Philippa "Sieve the Shining" Ballantine.
After commiserating, we jump into a main topic that lasts about five seconds, then answer a lot of really good voicemails.
Special Guest appearances by Charlie and Daisy, two of our cats. Promos played were for 12v Theater (hey, it's a new promo, what do you expect?) and Mur Lafferty's Playing for keeps, because despite the fact that I'm not her target audience, Mur is a great podcaster.
No music this show because it's late and I am tired. Let me know if you miss it. Or if I should just leave it out in the future.
The secret password is blogosphere.
Lazy show notes-ish. A live recording from a German outdoor swimming pool on a hot summer's day, we are joined by Leanna's brother Damian for a nice little chat. We didn't get to everybody's voicemails, but we did answer a few. The rest are sure to come.
Episode 14: I hear voice(mail)s!

Update: There seem to have been some problems with the original file, and I have to re-edit, convert, and upload it. Stay tuned for the new, more complete episode.
Update 2: The new vesion is up now. You can download it from here, or redownload it with your favorite podcathcer. Except iTunes. There is a poorly documented trick though: If you delete the old version from the feed, collapse the feed, and then click on the triangle to show the feed again while holding the shift (or option) key, it will show the deleted items, and you can click "get" to redownload the show. Note to Apple: Please to include "Download Again" option to rightclick menu. kthxbai.
So, lazy show notes today because it's my birthday. Details of my panel at DC.
Tale Chasing and Guardians
A new show from your friends in Germany. No real main topic today, but a variety of mini-topics instead. Plus, voicemails and emails and lazy show notes.
Music courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network.
Episode 12.5: The Long Feed List

Not a real show, but I have to make up for last week somehow. Links too all the shows can be found by going to google.com... what, you didn't really think I was going to put 100+ links in here, did you? Ask me if you have trouble finding any of them.
Lazy show notes, plus no music, just my mindless rambling. Have fun!
Also apparently the vote on Jack's page has changed, so never mind. You can still vote for number three, since I like Christiana's voice.
No show this week...

On account of the fourth of July. That's our story, and we're sticking to it. Besides, the last episode got posted late and was really long, so you could always pretend it was the average of two episodes. Or something.
More Der Geekery next week!

Episode 12: Schooling the Geek

Late but in earnest. Scheduling problems caused us not to be able to record until Friday night, which basically meant I wasn't able to edit the show until today. So, sorry tht it's late, but think of it as getting a two-fer this week!
In this episode, Leanna and I discuss such things as Fringe (promising) and the US Life on Mars series (avoid!), the new Indiana Jones movie, and others.
We delve into the topic of the German School System, which goes on a bit long, and along the way recount some anecdotes about our school life. By the way, that Wikipedia article has a lot of additional information, and is pretty interesting. Worth checking out.
Last but not least, we respond to your voicemails, and by your, we mean Jack Jaffee's.
If you want to contact the show, give us a call at 206-888-2644, or send an email to dergeek@gmail.com, or comment on the blog at dergeek.com. Also, feel free to follow me on Twitter.
Promos played were for Metamor City (great show), Tale Chasing (Tes Fest sounds like fun!), and The Weird Show (Encaf, you... have a great handle).
Music is courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs were Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away and Over and Over Again Lost and Found by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
Episode 11:Pforzheimer Mess' (Video)

Sorry in advance to those of you with slow connections (Yeah, sorry Jack), but we have something extra special for you this week. As mentioned in our previous episodes, the fest is in town, and the confluence of that and us having borrowed my sister's camcorder, led to us filming this brief tour of the fest. We hope you enjoy it!
No promos or music this week, but be sure to check out the Cue The Film podcast, since I made a guest appearance on their most recent episode, and you may quite possibly be hearing more from me on that show as well.
P.S. I did my best to make sure the video is ipod-compatable. If not, or if any of you out there have trouble viewing it, drop us a line at DerGeek@gmail.com, or leave us a voice comment at 206-888-2644.
We've made it to episode 10! (Woohoo)
In this episode, well, we have the second part of the Jack Jaffee interview, and lots and lots of technical problems (such as the third half of the Jack Jaffee interview not wanting to be imported into Audacity, and a strange consistent clicking sound)
Promos played were for The Podcast Formerly Known as the MILF and Cookie Podcast, and Nobilis Erotica.
Music courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network.
Episode 8.5: Not the real show

No real show this week. I had plans that fell through, so I'm by myself making up for not having a real show (fun fact: ever notice how some shows spin not having a real show by calling the replacement a "bonus show"?)
Lots of plugs today, but first, a special musical guest star: Silence, Silence.

Shoutouts to a ton of podcasters, especially Striptaculous, where we were guest stars. Also, 12v Theater, the Milf and Cookies podcast, the Farpoint Recap, and probably some other shows too that I forgot.

Real show next week, I promise!

Episode 8: Unsporting Conduct

In this episode of Der Geek, we recap the story so far in our week.
Our first topic is a post-mortem of Wingin ' It 3D, which leads into a spontaneous review of Southland Tales.
Our main topic discusses what tyoes of sports are big here in Germany, including such unique sports as VÃlkerball and Brennball, as well as the fairly popular Handball.
We wrap things up with a review of Life on Mars, followed by a volley of voicemails from Coffee Jack and Brian "Zaphod". Discussed: this article and Penn and Teller's Bullshit, as well as Penn Radio.
Music provided courtousy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs were Four Fingered Fisherman and Every Penny Fed Car by Modest Mouse.
Episode 7: Hey Mr. Postal-man

I'm flying solo again this week. I start off with some sad news about our friend in podcasting, C.A. Sizemore. Go to thetribeisone.com to leave a contribution.
I start by catching you up on recent events, including our new gaming console that actually has my wife playing video games (gasp!), as well as a new game for the 360. I also mention Death Cab For Cutie's new album.
For my main topic I review the Uwe Boll film "Postal. And immediately regret it.
Finally, a surge of voicemail, including a brand-new caller, Nobilis, as well as Jack Jaffee and somebody's butt!
Music provided courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs were Catch Me in Line by The Naturals, and In The Ether by Huh-uh.
Promo played was for the Striptaculous podcast at striptaculous.com
At long last, the episode you've all been waiting for! Leanna and I discuss sex and sexuality in Germany for about 45 minutes. Hope yo all enjoy!
The topic was suggested/inspired by a voicemail by Jack Jaffee. You too can call in a voicemail by dialing the easy-to-remember US number 206-888-2644, or by emailing us a comment in mp3, ogg, text, or whatever form, to dergeek@gmail.com.
In a very special episode of Der Geek, Tosus learns of the importance of bringing earplugs to a rock show, Star Wars gets a hard rock soundtrack, and popular music in Germany gets discussed... and dissed.
This is a series I would like to do every once and a while, where I take a band I enjoy, and review their music and concert. If you guys like this, let me know. If not, well, there's a section of Leanna and myself in the middle, responding to one of Jack Jaffee's voicemails*.
Music is Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria on their album Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness (You gotta love C&C for their album names. I just typed that by memory...), and No World For Tomorrow off the album of the same name (Though technically, the album is named Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 2: No World For Tomorrow... I know, I know), as well as Lemon Tree by Fools Garden off their album Dish of the Day.
Promo for 12 Volt Theater. Check it out! (And wish Jack a happy birthday)
Episode 4: Romancing the Geek

This is a bit of a shorter episode than usual. To celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary, we talk a little bit about how we met, and how we got together and eventually married. Warning: The audio has only been minimally edited, and my wife laughs really, really loudly. You might want to turn down the volume, just to be safe.
To send us a voicemail about the first half of our show, the number is 206-888-2644. To send us a voicemail about our degeneration into a discussion of church and state, well, Wingin' It is always looking for content (kidding, of course, we welcome any voicemail on any issue). If you can't or don't want to call, send us an email at dergeek@gmail.com, or leave a comment on the blog (hi Selganor!).
Music provided courtousy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs are Here Goes Nothing and Racecar by Justin Hopkins and the Guilt.
Episode 3: An Amusing Park

Sorry, it seems there were some technical difficulties with the episode. Here it is again in all its longer-than-15-minutes glory. Also, I've switched the feed to feedburner, so if for some reason you didn't automatically get the latest epsiode, just resubscribe to the new feed at feeds.feedburner.com/DerGeek, and it should work fine. Also, I can't splel "episode".

We have a great episode for you this week! Leanna joins me in the studio for the whole show, so you're not stuck listening to my voice all day (for that, check out Wingin' It 3D instead). I start off by recapping my week with some horror stories of corporate America, as well as Leanna's new toy (Okay Jack, get your head out of the gutter).
In our New Media Review, we discuss the latest season of Torchwood. Careful, there may be spoilers!
In the This German Life segment, Leanna recounts her visit to one of Europe's most popular Amusement Parks, Europa Park
In our Classic Media Review, we take a look at the newest season of Doctor Who. Again, mild spoilers contained within.
And finally, we wrap up with voicemails from Jack Jaffee, aka Coffee Jack, and... well, nobody, because nobody else called the voicemail line (sad pandas).
If you'd like to get in touch with us, send us an email at a href="mailto:dergeek.com">DerGeek@gmail.com, give us a call at the new and improved (except not really) voicemail line at 206-888-2644 (US number!), or send us an MP3 or other audio file as an email.
Be sure to check out DerGeek.com, and comment on the blog.
Promos played were from The MILF and Cookies Podcast, and the Cue the Film Podcast.
Episode 2: Podcasts and Procrastination

Here is the long-awaited second epsiode of our show. Yes, we made it further than 90% of podcasts out there! In this episode, we discuss the one year anniversary of Joe Murphy's passing, as well as Scott Sigler's Infected, as well as his other podcast novels.
In the This German Life segment, we talk a little about German food.
This episode is a bit atypical, which considering we have two shows so far means precisely nothing. Instead of a classic media review, I look back on the 26 year history of the magazine formerly known as Computer Gaming World, which recently closed it doors.
Then finally I answer some voicemails, which you can call in to the voicemail line at 206-888-2644 (US number), or email to dergeek@gmail.com.
Welcome to the show! Tha audio may be a little rough around the edges, but we are working on it.
In this episode, I introduce myself, then review the 12 Volt Theater Podcast by Jack Jaffee. After that, I am joined by my lovely wife, Leanna, as we discuss stereotypes that Americans and Germans have about each other. Finally, I review the classic series Raumpatouille Orion.
Give us a call at 206-888-2644, or send us an email or voicemail at dergeek@gmail.com.
